Trait selection is one of the first major decisions you’ll make once you join the game. They help determine your character’s qualities and interactions. Some traits are better than others at accomplishing different things and helping with a particular playthrough style. However, using these attributes in the game is entirely optional.

You can view your traits in Starfield whenever you wish. You can remove some of them if you feel they aren’t providing much value. Below are the top Starfield traits you should explore for an elevated gaming experience.

Extrovert

Most of the game’s main story quests require players to team up with human companions. Players are bound to expend high amounts of oxygen when traveling with others. However, you have fewer worries about this if your character has the Extrovert trait. It lowers the amount of oxygen players consume while traveling with a companion. However, you use more when traveling alone.

The perk is incompatible with Introvert (since they do entirely opposite things). You can remove the trait by interacting with Andy Singh. Players can locate him at the House of the Enlightened. Alternatively, you can use the Starfield console commands to add it.

Hero Worshipped

If you love getting all the attention, then this trait makes an excellent option for your character since it provides you with an “Adoring Fan.” They will offer you gifts and request to join your crew. This makes the trait an easy and reliable way to expand your crew, but they can quickly get annoying due to their fussy nature and incessant talking.

You can always send them to a ship or outpost when you get tired of them. Players can also eliminate the trait by killing the Adoring Fan. However, the jury is still unsure whether he is more good than bad. You’ll ultimately be the one to choose if you’ll assign the trait to your character or not.

Raised Enlightened and Raised Universal

Raised Enlightened, Raised Universal, and Serpent’s Embrace are three mutually exclusive religion-oriented traits in the game.

The Universal and Enlightened options provide a treasure chest of its religion. The choice between these two traits boils down to storytelling and minor gameplay boosts. The Enlightened pack provides more HP benefits, while the Universal pack increases oxygen recovery. For more aggressive gameplay, Universal will work better long-term.

Players can speak to the non-player character (NPC) Andy Singh at the House of Enlightened to help them remove the Raised Enlightened trait. To erase Raised Universal, go to the Sanctum Universum in the MAST district in New Atlantis and speak to Keeper Aquilus.

The third option, Serpent’s Embrace, increases your health and oxygen after a grav jump. However, you’ll get reduced health and oxygen if you don’t jump regularly. The NPCs that worship the serpent (even hostile ones) are rare compared to the two organized religions. It can be an interesting choice, but it might provide more challenges than benefits. This trait can’t be removed.

Empath

This trait makes your character connect deeply with other people’s feelings. It helps players enhance their combat skills if they make their human companions happy. On the other hand, doing anything that annoys them will register the opposite effect.

Most players tend to team up with various companions throughout the game. This makes the Empath trait an essential attribute as it’ll help support you through the many interactions bound to occur. Make sure to save the game so in case you incur their wrath, you always have a backup plan. You must trade 10,000 credits at Reliant Medical to remove this trait.

Kid Stuff

Activating this trait allows you to visit your home, New Atlantis, and see your parents whenever you want. You will, however, lose two percent of your income every week to send it to them. This accounts for approximately 500 credits.

Your parents may pop up in other parts of the cosmos for further interactions, which will help enhance your relationship. Players must visit the Family Apartments in the Residential District in New Atlantis to deactivate the trait. They’ll then have to speak to their father and ask them to stop sending money back home.

Wanted

A prize has been placed on your head, and bounty hunters want the reward in their hands. This trait allows you to deal significant damage at lower health, making it unique. However, you might come across mercenaries trying to cash in on the bounty so that you will have more opponents overall.

You are bound to take damage in Starfield, and this trait can help during desperate times. You must go to Cydonia and interact with the Trackers Alliance Agent to remove it. You’ll need to trade in 3,000 credits to pay off the bounty.

Dream Home

Do you like to live beyond your means? Then this trait is for you. You can store all your loot in this customizable home. But, the hefty mortgage payments might force you to rethink your decision. You’ll have to pay 125,000 credits in weekly installments of around 500 to GalBank.

You can use two methods to deactivate this trait’s negative side. Players can either speak to Landry Hollifield to foreclose the house or pay off the debt.

Alien DNA

This trait enhances the player’s health and oxygen levels. Its only downside is that it makes healing items less effective. Luckily, this can quickly be sorted by investing in healing skills like Rejuvenation and Medicine. To remove it, you must visit Reliant Medical and trade in 10,000 credits.

Neon Street Rat

The Neon Street Rat trait offers players unique dialog options in specified situations. It also gives you special faction rewards if you pursue related quests. If you’re a troublemaker, this trait will help you obtain more crime bounties from other factions. Players who love to traverse Neon City will get the most out of the trait. You’ll have to speak to Madam Sauvage in Ebbside to remove it.

Starfield traits help to add more character and depth to the game. They help to sharpen your identity beyond the background skills. The playthrough you want to pursue can guide you on the best trait to suit your needs.

Be aware that you can’t add traits to a character without using console commands, and each will have its good and bad side. It’s, therefore, best to consider things carefully before deciding.
