Google Calendar: How to Add a Reminder

Time management is of key importance in today’s busy world. Many of us have several obligations and several places we need to be at, all at once. So, it is no wonder that people often forget some of their tasks and responsibilities. And who likes having to explain to friends why they’ve forgotten to buy balloons for the party, which they knew about five weeks ago?

Google Calendar: How to Add a Reminder

Luckily, Google Calendar offers you the option to add a reminder for your tasks or events. We will explain how in the next section.

How to Add a Reminder on Your Desktop

Adding a reminder to Google Calendar is fairly simple. All you need to do is log in to Google Calendar, with your existing Google account, and follow these steps:

  1. On the lower left, locate “My Calendars.” You can check your existing Reminders.
  2. In the top left, select “Create.”
  3. When the pop-up appears, select “Reminder.”
  4. Type your desired reminder or choose some from the suggestions.
  5. Set date, time, and frequency.
  6. Press “Save.”

And voila, you just created a reminder for yourself. Now you can enjoy your day without having to think about that task, knowing that Google Calendar will remind you on the day and time you selected.

How to Add a Reminder on Your Android Device

First, if you haven’t done so, you will need to install the Google Calendar app from the Play Store. Once you have done this, sign in using your Google account information.

Now, to add a reminder:

  1. Open the Google Calendar app.
  2. In the bottom right, locate the option “Create.”
  3. Choose “Reminder.”
  4. Type your reminder or choose a suggestion.
  5. Set time, date, and frequency.
  6. In the top right, select “Save.”

If you’ve been reminded and completed the task, here’s how to get rid of it.

  1. Once you decide that you no longer wish to see this reminder, open the reminder.
  2. Click on “Mark as completed.” Google Calendar will cross it out for you.

Being organized and managing all your tasks has never been this easy.

How to Edit a Reminder

A slight, or even big, change in plans is a common thing. This might also require you to change your reminders as well.

Luckily, it is as easy as other actions in Google Calendar:

  1. Open your Google Calendar.
  2. Find the reminder you wish to edit.
  3. At the top right, you will find an icon shaped like a pencil. Click on this icon to edit.
  4. Make your changes.
  5. Click “Save” when you have finished.

Again, it’s a very simple way to keep track of your obligations and keep your reminders accurate.

How to Mark a Reminder as Done

There is no better feeling than having accomplished your tasks for the day. Even better is crossing them off in your to-do list, or in this case, the Google Calendar.

There are two ways to mark a reminder as done.

The first way to do this is:

  1. Open Google Calendar on your device.
  2. Open the reminder you wish to remove.
  3. Click or tap on “Mark as completed.” It will be removed from the list.

How to Hide Your Reminders

There are days you want to just relax, and ignore all the tasks on your list because of other obligations or you’re just giving yourself a break.

If you wish to do so, you can also hide the reminders in your Google Calendar:

  1. Open the Google Calendar app on your phone.
  2. Locate the “Menu” at the top left. Tap it and you’ll find your events, tasks, and reminders.
  3. Uncheck “Reminders” and they will be removed from your calendar.

If you wish to do the same, but using your desktop:

  1. Log into Google Calendar.
  2. On the bottom left, you will see “My calendars.”
  3. Uncheck “Reminders” and that’s it.

Why Your Reminder Might Have Not Shown

It might occasionally happen that a reminder you created does not appear in your calendar.

There might be a few reasons why this occurs, but none change the fact that you might have missed something important. These reasons might include:

  • You accidentally deleted the reminder. It can easily happen as it can be done in just two clicks (Click on the top right corner and delete the reminder).
  • You already marked it as done. This can also happen easily as it is very easy to mark a reminder as done (just swipe it right and it disappears).
  • You might have “hidden” your reminders in the Google Calendar. This is done by unchecking them in ’’My Calendar.“

As much as technology can make our lives easier, it can also create a mess at times. It is a good idea to double-check your calendar list to make sure all your tasks are up to date.
