For the remote device to give access to the local machine, you’ll have to install AnyDesk on both. Then adjust the settings of the remote device. 

How will the devices communicate? Through the AnyDesk ID generated by the remote device.

While it might sound simple, there are some technical issues to deal with as well. The following section takes you through all the steps needed to get unattended access. 

How to Set Up Unattended Access on AnyDesk

AnyDesk will work on several platforms – Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. To begin, download the AnyDesk application:

1. Launch your browser and open the AnyDesk website.
   
2. Click the “Install AnyDesk on this device” link.
   
   Note: AnyDesk for personal use is free and has limited features. The professional version requires a paid-for user license, but it comes with a free trial. You can test it before committing to pay for it.
3. Once the download is complete, open the app and select the installation parameters you want. Check the box beside “Allow collection of usage data.”
4. Click “Accept and install.”
   
5. If you don’t have an AnyDesk account, click “Register” after the installation.
6. When filling out the registration form, you’ll find the question, “I use AnyDesk to…?” Choose “Support family” or “Connect to my devices privately” to get the free license.

If AnyDesk is ready on both devices, you’ll need to configure the remote machine to activate unattended remote access. This is how you go about it:

1. On your remote device, go to “Settings.” To access the settings gear, click the dropdown menu (with horizontal lines) in the top right corner. 
   
2. When it opens, locate “Security” on the left task pane and tap it to open.
   
3. Tap “Unlock security settings” at the top.
   
4. Under permissions, select “Set password.” Choose a strong password, confirm it, and ensure you remember it. You’ll need it when connecting to the local device.
   
5. Once you set your password, mark the option “Allow other devices to save login information for this desk.” Next, check other parameters you want the local device to access. Here, you also have the option to enable two-factor authentication to enhance security. Ensure you activate it. 
6. At the bottom of the page, you’ll find “Profile Permissions.” Click the “Dropdown menu and select “Unattended access.” 
   
7. Click “Apply.” 
   

Now it’s time for the devices to connect.

1. Open AnyDesk on both the local and remote devices.
   
2. Locate and copy “AnyDesk ID or address” on the remote device. It’s a nine-digit number on the top left.
   
3. Enter the ID on the local device.
   
4. Enter the password you set on the remote device on the local device under “Authorization.”
   
5. If you don’t want to use a password every time you log in, check “Log in automatically from now.”
   Note: When you do this, the remote device gives the local device a token which allows the remote machine to accept connection automatically without a password. If you want to undo this option, go to the remote device security settings and select “Clear all tokens” or change the unattended remote access password.
6. Click “Ok.”
   

Possible Problems

If you follow the above steps, AnyDesk should work seamlessly. However, sometime you may experience frustrating unattended remote access errors. Let’s discuss why these errors occur and how to resolve them. 

• Lack of internet connection: If your unattended remote access fails, it could be either your local or remote device has no internet connection. Turn on the internet on both devices and try to reconnect. 
• Modified password or cleared tokens: This common problem could lead to an unattended access error. The local device gets locked out if someone has cleared all tokens or reset the unattended access password. You’ll need to set up unattended access again. 
• Antivirus software: Have you recently installed antivirus software on the remote device or enabled firewall restriction strict settings? The former causes problems in establishing a remote connection, while the latter denies the connection. You should disable the antivirus (temporarily) and undo the firewall settings. 
• Local device blocked: If the remote device has blacklisted the local device, the two won’t work together. You won’t have unattended remote access until the remote device removes you from the blacklist. 

So, if you ever have an unattended access error, check if any of the above errors are the cause.
