If you’re an Apple enthusiast, you’re most likely familiar with memojis. This is a relatively new feature that allows you to create an avatar of yourself. You can customize it with different costumes, hats, beards, hair colors, facial expressions, or anything else you like.
A memoji can be the perfect way to unleash your creativity and express yourself better. They are not only used for Apple ID photos but also serve as animated emojis in iMessage conversations. But how do you go about setting one on your device?
This article will show you how to set a memoji as your Apple ID photo or contact photo and create more exciting chats with friends and family.
How To Set Memoji as your Apple ID Photo
If your Apple device is running on iOS 13 or higher, you can ditch that old-fashioned avatar in favor of a custom memoji that stands out. You can set a memoji as your Apple ID photo in two ways:
Setting Memoji via iMessage
iMessage – Apple’s proprietary messaging app – allows you to set a profile photo that will appear next to your messages.
When setting up the profile photo, iOS gives you the option to use that photo as your Apple ID photo. You can use this opportunity and create a customized memoji that will serve as your Apple ID photo. Here’s how:
- Open Settings on your device.
- Tap on “Messages.”
- Tap on “Share Name and Photo.”
- Enter your first name and last names in the text fields provided.
- Tap on “Add photo.”
- Choose one of the pre-made Memojis. If you want to be more creative, tap on “+” to create a customized Memoji that reflects your looks, facial expressions, and headgear. If your device supports Face ID, you can take a selfie and make the pose you’d like to use in your memoji.
- Once you’re done creating the memoji, tap “Done.”
- At this point, you’ll see a pop-up asking you whether you want the memoji you just created to double up as your Apple ID photo. Tap on “Use” to confirm.
- Tap on “Done” in the top right corner of your screen to complete the process.
Setting Memoji via the Settings App
If you’re keen to use different photos in iMessage and Apple ID, the approach detailed above won’t work since it merges the two. Luckily, you can still set a memoji from within the Settings app without opening iMessage. The downside is that you won’t be able to create a memoji directly. You can only take a photo or choose one from your local storage. Here’s how to go about it:
- Make sure you’ve got a pre-made memoji sticker or custom memoji in your local storage.
- Open Settings on your device.
- Tap your name.
- Tap on the circular space designated for photos. If you’re already using a photo as part of your Apple ID, simply tap on it to reveal all the available photo editing options.
- Tap on “Choose Photo” and then navigate to the folder where you’ve saved your memoji.
- Use the on-screen tools to move and scale the photo as you see fit.
- Tap “Done.”
And that’s it! Your new memoji will now display in your Apple ID across all your devices.
How to Set a Memoji as Your Contact Photo on an iPhone
Setting a memoji as your contact photo on an iPhone is no different from setting one on an iPad:
- Open your device and navigate to the Contacts app.
- Tap on “My Card.”
- Tap on “Edit” in the top right corner. This will allow you to edit your contact details, including your name, phone number, email address, and contact picture.
- Tap on your avatar.
- Select one of the pre-made memojis or create a new one with the desired pose.
- Tap “Done” to complete the process and save the changes.
How to Set a Memoji as Your Contact Photo on a Mac
If your Mac is running on macOS Big Sur, you can create as many memojis as you want and use them as your contact photo. Here’s how to go about it:
- Open Settings on your device.
- Click on “Messages.”
- Click on “Set up Name and Photo Sharing.”
- Hit the “Continue” button to set a name and photo that will display in all of your communication apps.
- Enter your first and last names in the text fields provided.
- Choose one of the pre-made memojis, or have fun creating one that reflects your preferences and tastes.
- Click on “Done” to finish.
- At this point, you’ll see a pop-up asking you whether you want to use your new memoji you just as your Apple ID and contact photo. Tap on “Use” to confirm.
- You’ll be asked whether you want your new photo to be automatically added to your contact details or if you’d prefer to be asked every time before the photo is shared. Choose the option that appeals to you, and then click on “Done.”
Be You!
Memojis are a fun way to personalize your messages and show off the things that make you, well, you.
They’re also an excellent marketing tool for brands that want to connect with their audience in a new, exciting way. If you’re looking for ways to engage your customers and stand out from competitors in an increasingly digital world, memojis should have a place in your arsenal.
Remember that setting memojis only works in iOS 13 or later. If your device is running on iOS 12 or one of its predecessors, you need to upgrade to the latest OS to enjoy the coolest memojis out there or create new ones that represent who you are and what you love.
