Disney is probably the most popular entertainment brand in the world. Last year ended with Disney Plus streaming service entering the scene. It brought original content and started the Baby Yoda memes. It also brought the vault of Disney movie classics.
People excitedly signed up, and the number is still growing fast. But as with any new product going live, problems arose. Many of the initial problems have been solved. But sometimes it still crashes or freezes. Or, it might report error codes for you to decipher. So, what are you to do when this happens?
Xbox Issue
When Disney Plus launched in mid-November 2019, it was the Xbox users that were most affected by crashing. There were some closed captions issues as well, but Disney Plus crashing is the more serious. Users reported that Disney Plus worked fine, but suddenly when they logged in they’d get immediately logged out and returned to the Xbox home screen.
If you’re trying to watch Disney Plus on an Xbox and this keeps happening to you, try performing a hard reset. This is what you need to do:
- Hold the power button on the Xbox console for 8 seconds. Or until it shuts down.
- Unplug the power cord from the console for 5 minutes.
- Plug the power cord back in the console and then restart it.
And since Xbox is owned by Microsoft, you can add and remove your Microsoft account. Which could help with any errors you might be experiencing.
Internet Connection Issue
Streaming movies and TV shows would require a stable and fast internet connection. Disney Plus has minimum requirements that need to be met if you want to stream their movies and shows. For best video quality, Disney Plus recommends 5.0 Mbps for HD content and 25.0 Mbps for 4K UHD content.
If you are not sure how fast your Wi-Fi is, it’s probably best to check before you subscribe to any streaming service. But if you are sure that it’s fast enough and you’re still experiencing occasional freezes and crashes, make sure that not too many devices are connected and streaming at the same time.
If the issue persists, you should check your modem and router. Often, streaming issues can be solved by properly rebooting your router and modem. What you need to do is:
- Unplug the router and modem.
- Wait around 30 seconds.
- Plug the modem back in.
- Wait another 60 seconds.
- Now plug the router back in.
- Wait around 2 minutes.
- Check to see if the Disney Plus is still crashing.
Disney Plus App
There’s nothing quite like the inconvenience of getting cozy to watch a show or a movie only to realize you can’t. The new chapter of The Mandalorian is on and your Disney Plus keeps crashing. Try fully closing the Disney Plus app. As well as any other apps running in the background. Then go ahead and launch the app again.
If the app is still crashing, maybe you are not running on the latest version of the app. If that is the case, it could contribute to the streaming problem. Go to Play Store or Apple Store to check for the latest updates. Taking care of this is most likely going to help with the video playback problems. You could also try uninstalling and reinstalling the Disney Plus app anew.
Blank Screen
In the rare case that all you see is a blank screen when you’re trying to watch Disney Plus, make sure that you don’t have a content filter of some kind. It could be an antivirus application, pop-up blocker, or something similar that is preventing you from streaming content.
Content Is in High Demand
It’s important to remember that Disney Plus is still a brand-new streaming service. Sure, Disney is a huge company with endless resources but no companies are immune to technical difficulties. It’s highly probable that if the program you’re trying to stream is crashing, it’s due to current high demand.
Disney Plus is acquiring a massive number of subscribers daily, and a lot of them are going for the same original content. The best course of action here is to wait a little while and then try again later. Chances are, everything will go back to working properly in short order.
Don’t Give Up on Disney Plus
No one enjoys having to figure out why their Disney Plus is crashing. Whatever the reason, it’s probably easily fixable. Or it just requires a little bit of patience. But if you’re a fan of Disney and all that it has to offer, you won’t mind these minor glitches.
In fact, the most loyal of Disney fans have been waiting for the streaming service to launch and help make competitive. It’s only been live for a few months. The crashing and other issues are sure to decrease over time.
