How To Enable Chromecast on a Samsung Smart TV

Many popular smart TVs from brands like Sony, Toshiba, Philips, etc., come with Chromecast already built-in. Samsung TV users will need to take an extra step and purchase a dongle to get Chromecast functionalities on their devices. As long as your Samsung TV has an HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) port, you’ll be able to connect this streaming gadget and get more out of your TV.

How to Set Up Chromecast on a Samsung Smart TV

Setting up Chromecast on your TV will only take a few minutes. Here’s everything you’ll need in the process.

• A Samsung Smart TV with an HDMI port
• A Chromecast device and its components
• Another smart device, like an Android phone or an iPhone
• A Wi-Fi connection

In 2022, you can find two Chromecast models on the market: the third generation of Chromecast and Chromecast with Google TV. The setup process is almost identical for both models, with one difference. You’ll also need to pair your new remote in the case of Chromecast with Google TV.

Step One: Set Up Your Device

So, you took your Chromecast out of its box. For Chromecast 3, you should have the device, a USB cable, and an adapter in your hands. If you purchased Chromecast with Google TV, you’ll also find a remote control and two batteries in the packaging.

Connect your Chromecast 3 or Chromecast with Google TV to your Samsung TV in the following way.

1. Locate your TV’s HDMI port by checking the back of the device. You’ll typically find it on the right side (when viewed from the front).
   
2. Supply your Chromecast with electricity using the USB cable. Plug one end of the USB cable into the device and the other into the adapter that came with it, then connect the adapter to a power source.
3. Plug your Chromecast’s HDMI cable into your TV.
   
4. Turn on your TV and change the input source to the correct HDMI channel.
   

Most Samsung smart TVs come with at least two HDMI ports: a standard HDMI and an HDMI ARC. Any available HDMI port will work with Chromecast.

1. Insert the batteries into your remote.

Step Three: Connect With Chromecast

The next step is setting up Chromecast using Google Home. Don’t worry; you won’t have to use this app every time you use Chromecast. However, it’s necessary for configuring Chromecast 3, and significantly facilitates the process of setting up Chromecast with Google TV too. You’ll need two things for this step.

• A smart device, like a phone or tablet (both iOS and Android are suitable)
• A Google account

When you’re ready, follow these steps to pair your devices.

1. Download and launch the Google Home app for iOS or Android on your phone or tablet.
   
2. Press the “+” symbol and select “Set up device” from the menu.
   
3. Create a home by tapping the “+” sign if you’re new to Google Home. If you already have a home added, choose it from the list.
   
4. The app will now search for nearby devices.
   
5. Select your Chromecast from the list. You can check the name of your Chromecast in the corner of your TV screen to ensure you’re choosing the right device.
   
6. Hit “Next.”
   
7. Finish up the pairing process in one of the following ways.
   • On Chromecast 3, you’ll see a code appear on your TV and phone or tablet screen. If they correspond to each other, tap “Yes.”
     
   • On Chromecast with Google TV, you’ll be prompted to scan the QR code on your TV’s screen.
8. Choose and name the room where your Chromecast is set up and press “Next.”
   
9. Connect your Chromecast to the appropriate Wi-Fi network.
   
10. Follow the instructions on the screen to personalize your Chromecast and Remote settings, and you’re done.

You can also set up Chromecast with Google TV without the Google Home app. Just select “Set up on TV instead” on the initial screen and follow the instructions. This method might be a bit more tedious, but the remote will help you out.

Note: Your Chromecast and the device you’re casting from will need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Make sure you pick the network you usually use with your device during the Chromecast setup process.
