Life360 Why Can’t I See Speed

The road can be a dangerous place. Fortunately, the Life360 app lets you check if you and your loved ones are driving at legal speeds while out on the open highway. However, if you can’t view the speed on Life 360, the app has failed in one of its primary purposes. Luckily, there are some easy fixes to this problem. Read on to find out everything you need to know when it comes to seeing speed on your Life360 app.

Life360 Why Can’t I See Speed

How to View Speed on Life360

The speed viewing feature of the Life360 app is one of its most valuable tools. It allows you to view the speed of anyone connected via the app and included in your circle. If you can’t locate the speed on your Life360 app, it doesn’t mean it’s not being displayed; it may just be that you’re looking in the wrong place.

  1. Launch the Life360 app on your device.
  2. Select the Circle Profile of the member whose speed you wish to view.
  3. Access Location Details on the selected profile.
  4. Scroll down to view the member’s current and past drive speed information.

You can view past ride speed and drive details by tapping on the specific drive from the list in the member’s profile. This will display a drive report that contains the speed details, drive route, and if any dangerous incidents occurred during the trip.

How to Turn on Drive Detection to See Speed

If you can’t view the speed on your Life360 app, you and the rest of your inner circle may not have switched on Drive Detection. This feature must be turned on to view real-time speed and browse detailed driving reports in the Life360 app. This feature will only work if Drive Detection has been enabled on all phones whose speed you want to view. However, accessing Drive Detection requires a gold or platinum Life360 membership.

  1. Go to the Life360 app on your device.
  2. Tap on the Settings icon at the top left of your screen.
  3. Scroll down and select Drive Detection.
  4. Tap the Drive Detection toggle to the On position to enable Drive Detection.
  5. Repeat this process on all phones connected to your Life360 app.

Note: The toggle will display purple when Drive Detection is switched on. Turning on Drive Detection will also use more of your phone’s battery than usual.

The Drive Detection feature utilizes specific sensors in your phone to gather the required data. If your phone doesn’t have them, it will list it as unsupported and won’t work. Also, Drive Detection doesn’t start operating unless you’re more than half a mile from the starting location and traveling over 15 miles per hour. Also, if someone has turned off the Life360 location without letting anybody know, it won’t work either.

Other Problems and Solutions for Seeing Speed on Life360

Your Drive Detection may be turned on, but you still can’t see the speed on your Life360 app. There’s no need to panic since other factors can affect your ability to view speeds in the app. However, none of these are significant problems and can be resolved without investing too much time or hassle.

  • Phone Permission Settings: The Life360 app needs Location, Nearby Devices, Notifications, and Physical activity permission. Enable these by going to App Permissions on the app.
  • Battery: If you or the person you wish to view has less than 10% battery life, the Life360 app will automatically shut down Drive Detection. Ensure that your battery is charged above 10% to avoid this issue.
  • Cellular Signal: If your device or the member’s device whose speed you wish to view has bad cellular reception, this can cause the problem. Speed information, especially in real-time, requires a robust and reliable internet connection.
  • Wi-Fi Settings: Keep your phone’s Wi-Fi switched on in an area with low cellular reception even when not connected to a network.
  • Battery Saver Mode: Drive Detection won’t operate if your phone’s battery saver mode is turned on. Therefore, to see the speed of you and your inner circle on Life360, you must ensure that your phone and other phones have battery saver mode turned off.
  • Background Running: Drive Detection requires enabling the Life360 app to run in the background of your phone. If this hasn’t been enabled, it won’t work and, in turn, will not display speed.
  • Phone Calls: Making or receiving a phone call while trying to view speed information may interrupt the cell signal and stop the app from displaying speed data.

What Speed Data Should You Be Able to See on Life360?

The speed feature on Life360 can display useful speed information about members connected via the app. This can be a helpful tool for addressing any bad habits and making sure nobody breaks the law while driving.

  • Real-time Speed: When the app works as intended, you should see the real-time speed of any members traveling over 15 miles per hour.
  • Top Speed: The driver reports that are available to view on the app will include the top speed of the driver for any given trip.
  • Average Speed: Besides top speed, the driver reports will also tell you the average speed for any selected trip.

Note: The amount of speed information you can view depends on your Life360 membership level. Therefore, some speed information may not be available unless you have the required membership.

You Need to See the Speed to Control the Speed

The safety and well-being of your loved ones are the foundation of the Life360 app. Being able to view speed is a crucial feature in being able to do so.
