Mobile phones have a lot of connectivity options these days. But logging out of one app doesn’t mean you’ll automatically log out of other apps as well. Facebook and Messenger are connected and the Messenger app doesn’t have a logout button. Even though there isn’t a clear logout button on Messenger, there are still ways to log out from it, without much trouble.
With so many chatting apps, you might have concerns about your personal information online. For this reason, many users choose to go offline and log out of Messenger and similar apps. In this article, you’ll learn how to log out of all devices.
How to Log Out of Messenger on Your PC
Messenger can be used on many devices: iPhone, Android, iPad, PC, etc. If you use your personal computer or laptop more than your phone, you can log out of Messenger from your PC this way.
Opening Messenger on a PC makes logging out of this app much easier, considering there’s a Logout button. Which is why this way is the most practical one.
- Log in to Messenger.
- Click on your profile picture in the top left corner of the screen.
- The menu with options will open. Tap the “Logout” button.
There’s also an option to log out from Messenger using Facebook.
- Open the menu with the down arrow icon in the top right corner of the screen.
- In the menu options, click on the “Logout” button.
How to Log Out of Messenger on Android
For Android users, logging out of Messenger might be a little complicated as there isn’t an obvious Logout option. This is how it can be done:
- Open Messenger on your Android.
- Click on your profile picture in the top left corner of the screen.
- The menu with options will open.
- Find “Account Settings.”
- Next, click on the “Security and login” option.
- Click on the “See more” option to see the list of the devices you’re logged into.
- Click on the “See more” option to see the list of the devices you’re logged into.
- If you want to log out of all devices, simply click on the option “Log out of all sessions.”
- If you want to log out from a particular device, click on the three dots near that device.
- Then, click on the “Log out” option.
Besides this method, there’s another one you can use to log out of Messenger. Clearing Messenger data will log you out of this app.
- Exit both Facebook and Messenger apps on your phone.
- Open phone settings and find the “Apps” option. On some devices, this option will be named “Application Manager.”
- Scroll down and find Messenger.
- Click on “Storage” or “Storage & Cache”. Then click on “Clear Storage” or “Clear Data,” depending on the device.
Yes, clearing data is one of the ways to log out of Messenger. But besides this, clearing the cache might also log you out of your device. Clearing the cache won’t affect your data, it’ll just delete local files on Messenger. When you want to open the Messenger app again, you’ll need to log in again. This is a great way to log out of your device. A big plus with clearing cache is that you’re freeing up the space on your phone.
How to Log Out of Messenger on iOS Device
For iPhone and iPad users, there are two ways to log out of Messenger from the Facebook and Messenger apps. Hopefully, Messenger will have an obvious logout button in the future, making this process a lot easier.
Logging Out With Facebook App
Messenger settings can be confusing, while the Facebook App has always been easier to use. Here’s how you can log out of Messenger via the Facebook app:
- Open the Facebook app and click on the three dots in the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Find the “Settings and Privacy” option in the Menu.
- Click on “Security” and then “Security and Login.”
- All devices you’re logged into on Messenger will be displayed under the “Where you’re logged in” option.
- Click on the three dots next to the device you want to log out from.
- In the new window, click on the “Log out” option.
If you wish to log out from Messenger from more than one device, you need to do it one at a time (see Step 6). Each device has three dots next to it, where you can find the “Log out” button.
Logging Out With Messenger App
- Users of iOS devices can log out of Messenger by using the app itself. Open the Messenger app and click on your profile picture in the top left corner of the screen.
- The “Account Settings” option will open.
- Click on “Security and Login.”
- On the next page, log in to your account.
- In the devices, you’ll see which device you are logged in on with Messenger.
- Click on the three dots next to the device you want to log out of. Click on the “Log out” option that appears.
- Repeat this for each device.
Facebook Messenger Is Not Private
Facebook has experienced past data leaks that jeopardized the personal information of its users. Even if you deactivate your Facebook account, you’ll still able to use Messenger and may leave information behind. The Messenger app tracks your actions and has access to your microphone, camera, and contacts. All of which may convince users to delete this app.
Deactivating Facebook and Messenger
Even though Facebook and Messenger are connected, it doesn’t apply to deactivation.
If you don’t feel safe enough with just logging out of Facebook and Messenger, you can always delete or deactivate the apps. To completely get rid of Messenger, the Facebook account has to be deactivated as well. When you deactivate your Facebook account, you won’t be able to access your profile permanently. After 30 days, Facebook and Messenger won’t be accessible.
If you change your mind and want to reactivate Messenger, all you need to do is log in to your account. But if your 30 days have passed, you’ll need to make a new profile and start from scratch.
Deleting Messenger App
Completely securing your information can be done by deleting the Messenger app altogether. If you decide to delete Messenger, Facebook will be deleted as well and you’ll lose all your content on both apps. Unlike deactivation, when this process begins, you won’t be able to reactive the account to retrieve data. Note that it’s advisable to download photos or important data beforehand.
